When faced with difficult circumstances, one of the best ways to persevere is to be enthusiastic about the situation. Every day you’re faced with challenges, some small and others massive. Sometimes what you face feels insurmountable, as though you’ll never succeed. You can do it! By being enthusiastic about your ability to weather the storm, you’ll build hope for a brighter tomorrow.
When I nearly lost my pack in a river crossing during a blizzard in Greenland, I was afraid that I would develop frostbite. I had to control the upwelling of negative emotions. Instead of letting them control me, I made a conscious decision. I had to make myself enthusiastic about rubbing snow on my wet skin to dry off. It took a lot of willpower because it felt like I was rubbing broken glass on my skin. Be enthusiastic about your challenges. You’ll have a much better chance at success and you’ll build more grit for the future tough times.
“There is a real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment.” —Norman Vincent Peale
