The small Black Diamond Deploy 3 is a solid little shovel for back country snow travel. You can toss it in your backpack, not really notice it, but have it if and when you need it. Whether you’re skiing, backpacking, or shoe showing, this is a much better choice than plastic shovels. This is especially handy for avalanche preparedness.
