It Hurts Now

dsc06341Look at the things you want to do in your life. Some challenges are physical, others are mental. Whatever your goal may be, you’re going to have to push yourself through some discomfort to reach it. Maybe you want to run a marathon or perhaps you want to earn a PhD. These goals can seem impossible if you obsess about avoiding pain. Training can be painful. Your muscles might be sore for days. Studying can be real painful, as you learn just how much you don’t know. It’s okay!

None of us are born a rocket scientist or a gold medalist. But you have to start somewhere. In fact, start today. Do exactly one thing, however small, that pushes you toward your goal. Jog around your back yard. Start off by reading Adventures in Rocket Science by NASA (it’s a great introduction, also download here). I used to barely be able to do ten pushups. Now I can do forty. Start today on making your dream a reality.
