You can improve your attitude and outlook on life while reducing tension by simply disconnecting from the world for five minutes each day. Many of us run around with our phone, iPad, or laptop always in tow. This overloads your mind, causing stress. We’ve become addicted to believing it’s important to know what’s going on all the time. This addiction causes anxiety which in turn reduces your ability to cope with simple stresses.
Please try this experiment for a week. Do it for seven days straight. Miss a day? Start again. Leave your phone, iPad, and laptop behind a closed door in your house for five minutes. Go into a room where there’s no television. Do this even if you have to hide from your children in the bathroom. You’re not missing a thing, especially the latest cat video posting. When you leave your hiding place, don’t just rush back to your device. You’ll feel better about the world and have an improved attitude. You can do it!
“Turn off your email; turn off your phone; disconnect from the Internet; figure out a way to set limits so you can concentrate when you need to, and disengage when you need to. Technology is a good servant but a bad master.”—Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project
